At Collatio, we want to challenge the conventional ecosystem of doing business. Conventional businesses are delinked from society; the shareholders or owners run their business in denial of societal issues. Some charity or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives might be undertaken by the company, but always through a trade-off between social- and economic performance.
Collatio envisions to propagate the entrepreneurial vision of ecosystem of shared values on a worldwide level, where every farmer group and community has the same equal opportunities and freedom to advance economically and socially. This requires a change in mindset for conventional businesses: societal issues, such as the lack of access to finance, become investment opportunities to secure long-term profits and are not threats that need to be cured by charity.
To prepare for its hibernation, a squirrel collects and buries nuts in the soil. When a squirrel forgets where he buried the nut, he accidently plants a tree. This way, thousands of squirrels plant million of trees. Once the tree grows up, humans breath in the oxygen, the canopy shelters birds and other wildlife, etc. This is a perfect example of a shared ecosystem.
